Does anyone know what happens to all the aircraft when an airline goes bankrupt and stops flying like ATA. Are the planes parked where they last landed or parked in one of the desert areas out west until sold. I know ATA had a fairly new fleet including the B757s and a few new B737-900s.

When I was in Phoenix last week, there were three ATA 75x planes
parked at the western edge of the field....

There are usually quite a few parked and mothballed at the
Victorville Airport (KVCV) in California's High Desert. I noticed
them during my last Angel Flight there.

Google Earth shows several planes:
34.5974722 / -117.3830000

I've heard of aircraft coming straight off the assembly line and ending up
in Arizona at the 'boneyard'. Depending on the market, some other airlines
or even new start-ups might purchase them, as they are 'discounted' or 'on
sale'.
